Ben Johnson

Intrepid translator, builder, and problem solver.

Education never stops. UVA ties its tradition of counting students by years to this Jeffersonian belief, and that mindset drives me. I get priorities straight, ask the better question, and keep building, because failure is where learning lives.

In two weeks of build time, I stood up a GTM Job Hunt platform on a multi-model AI stack. With a CRM, nine agents, and automated and human QA/QC, every real decision is mine. I built this website to show the demo and the evidence of my GTM methodology.

Talk is cheap. In this game, seeing is believing.

    The storyboard behind the demo

Every demo I give starts as a storyboard: a frame, a key phrase, a transition, a benefit, the evidence and an open question. One row per chapter. Here is one.

    Chapter10:32 of 2:34
    Frame

Buying a new car: you research online, but you still go to the dealership and take the test drive.

    Evidence

    • To camera, at the desk
    • Buying a car is a major investment; so is hiring your sales engineering leader
    • Sets up the test drive the rest of the video delivers

    The quote

“Buying a new car is a major investment, very much like hiring the head of your sales engineering team is.”

    The Operating Contract

9agents the contract governs — the legwork is theirs, every call that matters is mine.

What the machine may do on its own, where it has to stop, who types what, and how the two AI models split the work.

Open the two-model infographic →PDF · one page · who owns what, how work crosses, the rules

    The nine agents
    • Morning intake briefing Reads the overnight job alerts, dedupes them against the register, stages new rows and writes a one-page brief of what matters today.
    • Tracker bridge Every hour, reads staged writes and applies them to the tracker with no click; refuses duplicates and never overwrites a filled cell.
    • Tracker rebuild Rebuilt the whole tracker in one pass: dashboard, scoring, tabs and formulas.
    • Tracker repair The first repair script. The outage it caused is what produced the bridge’s second version. Retired.
    • End-of-day sanity check Nightly audit: is the to-do still true, are the pointers current, does the tracker pass its checks, did the procedures run.
    • Screen-recording sweep Copied new screen recordings into the evidence folder. Switched off after its first day.
    • Resume parse check Runs the resume through the checks an applicant-tracking system does. Found a defect the day it was built.
    • Launch check Nightly: does this site answer yet? When it does, it fills the held-back profile fields and switches itself off.
    • Tracker quality-control script The mechanical audit the nightly check runs, so the check cannot skip a test or invent a finding.

    POC – More projects

I find social media corrosive, but I wanted to show who I am off the clock. So I stood up this site over the same couple of weeks, to boot.

Ten things I have built, led or kept running.

Colorado Cavalier Consulting Group: Principal & Founder Since March 2026

An AI-enabled spin-up and scale model for software and technology companies · the same operating contract as the job hunt · no photographs, so the instruments instead

Since March 2026 I have run Colorado Cavalier Consulting Group, a Denver holding and advisory company: an AI-enabled spin-up and scale model for software and technology companies, with a revenue model and sales architecture at the center and five services around it. It runs on the same operating contract as the job hunt above — two AI models in separate lanes, one human making every call, a ledger that logs the mistakes — because the point of both is the same: to put the human’s judgment on the record. There are no photographs of a firm, so the reel here shows the instruments instead.

1902 Historic Renovation: Scope, Compliance & Tradeoffs

Dutch Colonial Revival · National Register of Historic Places · AI-accelerated DIY with human sign-off where it counts

We are restoring a 1902 Dutch Colonial Revival listed on the National Register of Historic Places — brick arches, repointed masonry, a salvaged herringbone floor, a basement vault, stairs, flooring and walkways; the basement excavated and a new slab poured, a ledger-and-post system set to reinforce it, the ceilings reinsulated and drywalled. Every decision is a three-way trade between what is original, what is permitted, and what a family actually has to live in. I run the work the way I run everything else: AI and human expertise together, to accelerate the jobs I can do myself and to flag exactly where a licensed trade, an inspector or a sign-off has to come in.

Emergency 9 Golf League: Commissioner Since 2021

Sponsorship, a custom scoring system, the fall Classic, and the merch — operations and workflow below

Commissioner of the Emergency 9 Golf League since 2021: schedule, handicaps, rules disputes, and the weekly scoring nobody volunteers for. I secured corporate sponsorship through Dougherty’s Neighborhood Pub, which covers a fair share of league expenses and the steak-and-shrimp awards banquet at the end of every season. The custom handicap and points-scoring system has been rebuilt three times over six seasons; the workbook below is the current one. I founded and commission the E9 Fall ‘Class Act’ Classic each season, and I design the league merchandise with an art director, with custom threads sourced at cost through a league connection every year.

Urban Gardening: From Backyard Compost to an NGO Concept

Denver’s short season · home composting · Denver Urban Gardens workshops · the Urban Roots concept

I grow a good share of what we eat. The garden is a yearly experiment in what actually works in Denver — short season, thin air, hail in June — and most of what I know about it I learned by getting it wrong first. We started composting at home, I worked through the Denver Urban Gardens workshops, and out of all of it came Urban Roots, an NGO concept for urban gardening and self-sustainability through education. My dad was a horticulturist with a small business of his own, and self-sustainability has stayed near and dear to me ever since.

White Water Rafting & Trip Leadership

Two-year logistics plans, zero resupply, and trip leadership from permit to takeout — including family trips, where the planning and the liability are a different sport

Leading a multi-day river trip is permits, headcount, boats, menus, water, medical, shuttle and a fallback for every failure, settled months before anyone touches an oar. The Grand Canyon was the longest: 22 days and 225 miles with no resupply, two years in the planning. I’ve been trip leader on the Gates of Lodore, the San Juan, Westwater Canyon, the Upper Colorado and Ruby-Horsethief, among others, running kitchen and group gear for crews of twenty-five, and in the last few years I’ve led family trips, where the planning gets tighter and the margin for error gets smaller.

    Community Revenue Systems & Enablement

Pro-bono CRM architecture (Partners in Education), therapy-animal handling (Pet Partners), and classroom instruction (Slow Food Denver)

I sit on the Partners in Education committee at our neighbourhood elementary school, where I am building the donor system they never had - evergreen renewals, a monthly scrape of new businesses in the area, and automated outreach. I volunteered with Pet Partners as a therapy-dog handler with our golden retriever, Karen, until she passed last year, and I’m now training our new golden, Loretta, to do the same. I also teach seed-to-table sustainability in classrooms with Slow Food Denver.

Cooking, Smoking & Catering for Fifty-Plus: Art, Science and Iteration

Smoking since 2017 · twelve-to-eighteen-hour cooks · tallow rendered from the brisket trimmings · two full days with prep and clean-up

Cooking requires a certain mix of art and science, which I absolutely relish. I started smoking BBQ in 2017 and never looked back: twelve-to-eighteen-hour smokes, the larger cuts like brisket finished wrapped in the oven, and with prep and clean-up usually two full days of work. It is an ever-evolving learning process — small adjustments, iterate, learn what works and what doesn’t, refine — down to rendering my own tallow from the brisket’s trimmed suet. I have catered for groups of over fifty people on multiple occasions, and I find the high-paced flow of coordinating and executing a huge cook cathartic. Food brings family together, and for me that has always meant both around the table and in the kitchen. As my dad likes to say, “I love to cook with wine… and sometimes I even use it in the food.”

    Snowboarding: Finding Balance

Controlled speed · calculated risk · connecting with nature · coaching my son to read a mountain

Finding balance, in both senses of the phrase. Flying through the air on every run is how I stay grounded: controlled speed, calculated risk, and connecting with nature. A balanced body and soul produce better ideas and more productivity than burning out from the lack of it ever did. It is also where I coach my son and teach him to read a mountain.

    Music

Raised in a house with it always playing · an Irish session with the spoons · the record collection the house is wired around

Without being any sort of accomplished musician — beyond sitting in on an Irish session with the spoons — music is absolutely central to my life. I was raised in a house with it always playing, and it is my muse to this day. Music brings people together.
